AC Milan optimistic about landing Manchester United star Diogo Dalot
According to La Gazzetta Delo Sport (h/t Sempre Milan), Italian giants AC Milan are confident of landing Manchester United star Diogo Dalot this summer.
The Portuguese international spent last season on loan at the San Siro where he made 33 appearances, scoring twice and assisting three more. While he did show a lack of consistency, Dalot appears to have left an impression on Milan boss Stefano Pioli.
Milan is keen to take the defender back on another loan spell, but this time with the option of making the deal permanent. The provision was absent in Dalot’s spell last season.
United for their part are unwilling to relent. The club is not averse to loaning out the fullback but are not too keen on adding the option to buy. Whether it is a ploy to force Milan to buy him outright or if Dalot still has a role at Old Trafford remains to be seen.
As things stand, the deal appears to be progressing at a snail’s pace. Milan however remains optimistic and believe a deal can be reached. With Champions League football also on offer, Dalot could benefit from a return to the Red and Black.
Dalot’s versatility and attributes are something Milan could benefit from next season. The youngster is at an age where he should be playing regularly to continue his development. With chances at United a premium, he could have a better chance of playing regularly elsewhere.
Reliable journalist Fabrizio Romano revealed earlier this week that Milan are interested in Dalot but that an agreement is yet to be reached. Whether that changes in the coming weeks remains to be seen.

A right-back appears to be on United’s radar this summer. While Aaron Wan-Bissaka is defensively solid, his attacking prowess leaves much to be desired. This has seen the club turn their attention to Atletico Madrid ace Trippier.
With Atletico sticking to their €40m asking price, it will be curious to see if United will cash in on Dalot to fund a move for the Englishman.
