Blow for Man United as Nagelsmann is keen to keep this German star at Bayern

Julian Nagelsmann keen to keep Leon Goretzka amidst Manchester United interest

According to The Daily Mail, new Bayern Munich boss Julian Nagelsmann is keen to keep Manchester United target Leon Goretzka at the Allianz this summer.

The German international has just a year to go on his current deal with the Bavarians. A key part of the German side under Hansi Flick, he appears to have a similar role to play under the new hierarchy.

Nagelsmann will take over at Bayern this summer as the Germans look to build a new era under the former RB Leipzig boss. One of the finest young managers in the game, he is keen to keep the best players at the club.

Goretzka has a year left on his Bayern contract

According to the report, Bayern CEO Oliver Kahn has confirmed that talks with the player over an extension are going well. So far, they are yet to reach an agreement. Goretzka is a world-class midfielder and it comes as no surprise that teams are continuing to monitor his situation.

United have already gone big to land one Bundesliga talent this year. With Jadon Sancho in the bag, the Red Devils can now focus their attention elsewhere. With Paul Pogba and Donny van de Beek potentially set to leave, it is imperative that we reinforce the midfield in the summer.

Goretzka is in favour of staying in his home country and is looking to build upon his work so far. It could just be a case of both sides reaching a favourable agreement.

Kingsley Coman, another Bayern star linked with United, is unhappy with his wages and is seeking better terms in order to agree to a contract extension. It would appear the German giants have walked themselves into a corner, thanks to the numbers offered to Alaba and also Leroy Sane. (h/t The Daily Mail)
