Sergio Ramos snubs £10million offer from Manchester United to join Paris Saint-Germain
According to The Daily Star, Manchester United have lost out to Paris Saint-Germain in the pursuit of legendary Spanish defender Sergio Ramos.
The 35-year-old left Real Madrid after a trophy-laden 16 years at the Santiago Bernabeu. He then held extensive talks with United bosses about a move to Old Trafford. This however appears to have gained us little.
The Red Devils appear to have had serious interest in the player and were ready to offer him £10million in wages. This would have seen him land £200,000-a-week for the next 12 months. United also included the option for a second season.
According to the report, Ramos is keen to move to Paris Saint-Germain, despite the Ligue 1 giants offering him a lower pay package. His representatives have since flown to Paris to complete his move subject to him passing a medical.
PSG are keen to regain their league title and have already signed Georginio Wijnaldum and are also closing in on signing Gianluigi Donnarumma on a free. The French giants could be set to land yet another coveted free agent in Ramos in the same summer.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is well aware that he needs reinforcements in order to challenge for the Premier League title next season. One position that needs reinforcements is the defence and Ramos could have been a shrewd addition. With him now out of the picture, United could turn their attention to Ramos’ former partner Raphael Varane.
The Frenchman, also linked with PSG, is in the final year of his contract. Real are not keen to lose him for free and could choose to cash in on him this summer.
