Edinson Cavani to play a reduced role at Manchester United next season
According to Express, Edinson Cavani could be playing a reduced role at Manchester United in the coming season. The veteran striker could be used in about 60% of the matches United play due to his advancing age.
The 34-year-old joined the club last summer on a one-year deal. His performances have, however, left a mark and United were keen to tie him down for another year. With just weeks left on his current deal, Cavani was heavily linked with a return to South America. Even Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has held talks with the player.
Cavani did end up extending his stay at Old Trafford for another season. Now, it would seem as if he will not be featuring on a consistent basis next season. He will be expected to play 60% of the games United play over the season. The reason behind the same is his age.
United have gone about their transfer business keeping his age and fitness in mind. Jadon Sancho’s arrival means that he will take up the spot on the right. That frees up Mason Greenwood to play through the middle and be rotated with Cavani.

Solskjaer managed Cavani’s minutes well over the last season. He eased the striker into the side and often called him off the bench. It is understandable that United would want to use Cavani sparingly given his advancing years. That would allow them to groom Greenwood for the role for the future.
