Manchester United suffer massive blow in their pursuit of Cristiano Ronaldo
According to TalkSport, Manchester United have been knocked back in their efforts to land Juventus superstar Cristiano Ronaldo this summer.
The 36-year-old is smarting from a frustrating season that saw him fall short with both Juventus and Portugal. With just a year to go on his current deal in Turin, his future has been subject to much speculation of late.
Both United and Paris Saint-Germain are among the clubs to have been linked with Ronaldo, however, it looks like he isn’t going anywhere this summer.
“We’re happy to have Cristiano back with us once the new season will start.”
According to the report, Juventus sporting director Federico Cherubini claims that he is only happy for Ronaldo to stay put in Turin for next season. With the player yet to demand an exit, it would appear that he will see out the final year of his contract at Juventus.
“We’ve currently received no signal from Ronaldo to leave the club this summer.”
According to the Italian outlet Cult of Calcio (h/t Mirror), United are so far the only side to make an offer for Ronaldo. The player currently earns £27m per year after tax in Turin. A return to Manchester will see him pocket just half of that.
Having signed Jadon Sancho and set to hand Bruno Fernandes a new contract, United signing Ronaldo will place a further strain on their wage bill. A potential extension for Paul Pogba will just add to that further. At 36, the Portuguese legend is past the peak of his powers and we will do well to invest that money elsewhere.
Juventus for their part appear to be ready for any eventuality. They have already earmarked replacements for Ronaldo. Among them are Manchester City’s Gabriel Jesus, Fiorentina’s Dusan Vlahovic and PSG’s Mauro Icardi. (h/t Mirror)

Signed by Sir Alex Ferguson, Ronaldo spent six years as a United player between 2003 and 2009. He helped the club to three Premier League titles, the Champions League, the Club World Cup, and the FA Cup.
He has already written his place into United’s history books and it is better to not overdo it to the extent of ruining it. A reunion may not be the best use of the funds allocated for him.
