Manchester United starlet Reece Devine set to join St Johnstone on a season-long loan
According to The Courier, Manchester United starlet Reece Devine is set to join Scottish Premier League side St Johnstone on a season-long loan this summer.
The 19-year-old is highly rated at United and will now hope to make use of the opportunity to further his development. The defender was previously with Manchester City as a youngster, before eventually committing to the red half of the city.
The left-back is yet to make his senior bow. While he was considered for a move to McDiarmid Park last season, it did not come to pass. Saints manager Callum Davidson is however taking up the opportunity to sign the Manchester United left-back this term.
“He was just a fraction too young at that time.”
The move to St Johnstone could prove very beneficial to Devine. Having won last season’s Scottish Cup, the club has been given a spot in the third round of the UEFA Europa League qualifiers. The United youngster could also get his first action of continental football during his time at McDiarmid Park.
“With his background at Man United I would have no qualms about playing Reece right now.”
Davidson appears excited with Devine’s arrival and has made it clear that he believes the player is ready to take to the field. This could very well be an excellent opportunity for the youngster seeking to take the next step in his career.
“United have a fantastic youth programme and he has been around the first-team set-up at Old Trafford. At his stage, he is now ready to play first-team football.”
Manchester United have seen youngsters step up in recent times. The likes of Teden Mengi, Shola Shoretire and Amad Diallo have all featured for the first-team. While some might be given an opportunity at United, others will have to seek it elsewhere.
