Fabrizio Romano confirms that Jesse Lingard could yet leave Manchester United for West Ham United
Speaking on the Strettycast Podcast, reliable journalist Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Manchester United star Jesse Lingard could yet leave Old Trafford to join West Ham United this summer.
The English international spent the second half of last season on loan at the London side. To call his short spell a success would be an understatement. Lingard made 16 appearances for the Londoners, scoring nine goals and assisting five. He was amongst the best players in the league during that time. (h/t Transfermarkt)
It will come as no surprise that West Ham would like to sign the player on permanently. They appeared to have hit a roadblock given United’s interest to hand the player a new three-year deal. (h/t The Daily Star)
However, West Ham have now been given some semblance of hope by Romano. The Italian has revealed that the Hammers are the only club that Lingard will swap United for. This is a shot in the arm for David Moyes who will be keen to add the player to his roster.
“From what I heard, it’s West Ham or Manchester United. I don’t see him leaving for another club because he was great at West Ham. If he has to leave Manchester United, it’s to join West Ham.”
While it not does mean West Ham can land their man, Romano’s revelation does hint at their odds having taken a massive leap. The Hammers could be further aided by United’s capture of Jadon Sancho. (h/t The Evening Standard)
Lingard already faced enough competition to stake a claim for a starting spot at United. The addition of Sancho will be yet another obstacle for him to overcome. Having shown what he is capable of, Lingard should aim to play regularly even if it is not at United. West Ham is also in Europe and can help the player realize his wishes.

Lingard is in the prime of his career and can do better than remaining as a backup player at United. He shares a good relationship with David Moyes and could become a key star at West Ham. Having missed out on this summer’s Euros, another strong season with the Hammers could aid his chances of being selected for the 2022 Wold Cup easier.
