Manchester United are keeping tabs on River Plate star Nicolas De La Cruz
According to TNT Sports (h/t Sport Witness), Manchester United are one of the teams in the fray for Uruguayan international Nicolas De La Cruz.
The 24-year-old who plays for Argentine giants River Plate has been turning heads with his performances. Five European teams are currently interested and are keeping a close watch for him.
Of the five just Fiorentina and United are among the known names. According to the report, the midfielder could be available for around €16m to €20m. It represents decent value for a player who is already a full international for La Celeste.
De La Cruz came through the youth academy at Liverpool Montevideo, where he made his senior bow. He eventually moved to River in 2017. He has since made 118 appearances for them scoring 19 goals and assisting 28 more. (h/t Transfermarkt)
The 24-year-old had earlier garnered interest from both Everton and Manchester City in the past. It would appear that De La Cruz’s performances will eventually make the step up to European football.
Currently, with the Uruguayan side at the Copa America, it remains to be seen if he will put in a good word regarding us. After all, given the asking price, he seems to be bang for the buck. Especially so given what we are paying for Jadon Sancho.
Predominantly an attacking midfielder, De La Cruz is capable of playing anywhere in midfield. He also represents a credible threat from midfield, something that we could do with. Whether it will come to pass remains to be seen.
