Struggling Man United star unwilling to seal loan move to Serie A, eyes Premier League stay

Manchester United star Donny van de Beek unwilling to move to Serie A on loan

According to FCInterNews (h/t The Mirror), Manchester United star Donny van de Beek is not keen on moving to the Serie A on loan this summer.

The 24-year-old joined United to much fanfare last summer but failed to leave an impact in his first season at Old Trafford. The Dutchman completed just three Premier League games all season, predominantly spending time on the bench.

Van de Beek played just 1456 minutes for United across all competitions last season. This is comparatively lower than the 3171 minutes he managed at Ajax Amsterdam the season before. (h/t Transfermarkt)

Van de Beek’s struggles have seen him get linked with a move away from Old Trafford this summer. Both Arsenal and Inter Milan have been touted as potential destinations for the 24-year-old.

The player for his part is not keen to move to Italy, and is eyeing a stay in the Premier League. Whether that is limited to just United or any other club remains unknown. Van de Beek is also open to a switch to La Liga.

The Dutchman’s struggles have not gone unnoticed in the Netherlands. There is a widespread belief in the country that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has not given him enough opportunities to impress.

According to The Telegraph (Subscription Required), Van de Beek is set to hold showdown talks with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer regarding his future this summer. The outcome of that meeting could very well decide where the player plies his trade next season.

Despite a difficult season, Van de Beek was handed a spot in the Netherlands squad for this summer’s Euros. His joy was however short-lived as an injury ruled him out of the competition. He last made an international appearance against Gibraltar in March. The 2020/21 campaign was indeed a forgettable one for the Dutchman.
