Manchester United fans react as Edinson Cavani leads Uruguay to Copa America quarter-finals
Manchester United star Edinson Cavani led his nation Uruguay to the last eight of the Copa America being held in Brazil this summer.
The South American giants began their campaign with a 1-0 loss to Argentine before drawing 1-1 with Chile. They needed to win against Bolivian to stand any chance of making it to the next round.
A Joao Quinteros own goal put the La Celeste ahead at half-time before Cavani grabbed his first goal of the tournament to give them a two-goal cushion. Results elsewhere also went in their favour and Uruguay are now set to continue their stay in the tournament.
The strike was Cavani’s 52nd goal for the national team. A tally bettered only by strike partner Luis Suarez. Uruguay play their final group stage fixture against Paraguay on Monday.
15-time champions of the tournament, La Celeste is the most successful team in the competition’s history. Whether Cavani can lead them to number 16 remains to be seen.
We take a look at how fans reacted to the performance on Twitter.
