Manchester United skipper Harry Maguire misses training as England gear up for Germany showdown
According to the Daily Mail, Manchester United skipper Harry Maguire has missed Thursday’s training sessions with England.
This comes just a couple of days after the 28-year-old started his first game for club and country in over a month. Maguire, whose inclusion in the squad was questioned, put up a stellar performance against the Czech Republic that will have silenced his critics.
There is no cause to worry about the player missing training. In fact, it is being done in order to balance his workload following his return to action after over a month on the sidelines.
According to the report, Maguire was not present in the group session. Instead, he trained individually to achieve ‘load management.’ This should hold him in good stead as England look to go all the way at the Euros.
The Three Lions will next face Germany in the knockout stage. Having been knocked out by Iceland at a similar stage in 2016, Gareth Southgate’s side will face a much tougher proposition this time against the Germans.
Joachim Low’s side appear to have rediscovered their shooting boots, scoring six goals in their last two games. The England defence too looked better following Maguire’s arrival and it is imperative that the United ace is ready for the crunch clash.
England are yet to concede a single goal in the tournament. With their best defender now back available, they will take on Germany with a spring in their step. With Jordan Henderson also back in the reckoning, the Three Lions can make use of both youth and experience in their battle against their more illustrious opponents.
Southgate’s side have not really shown us what they are capable of this summer. A win against Germany will be a good time to start.
