Fans react as Manchester United skipper Harry Maguire impresses for England upon return from injury
Manchester United skipper Harry Maguire outlined his importance to the English national team with a standout performance in their 1-0 win over the Czech Republic in the European Championship.
The 28-year-old was making his first competitive appearance since being injured against Aston Villa more than a month ago. He made a mockery of his lack of match fitness and looked up for the task from the first whistle.
Maguire was solid at the back and responded to threats quickly and effectively. He also exuded a sense of calm to those around him. It was reflected in the performances of Luke Shaw and John Stones, both of who looked far more assured in his presence.
The United ace also showed off his prowess on the ball with some forward forays. He almost picked up an assist too after putting English skipper Harry Kane through on goal. Unfortunately, the Spurs star fluffed his lines and could not find the back of the net.
England now go into the knockouts as winners of Group D. This could see us play against the likes of Germany, France or Portugal in the next round. It is fair to say that the road ahead is not easy for Gareth Southgate’s men. However, with their best defender now back available, anything could be possible.
We now take a look at how fans reacted to Maguire’s performance on social media.

Maguire has been unreal in every sense a centre back can be. His ability on the ball doesn’t get spoken about nearly as much as it should be.

Maguire has the spatial awareness, technical ability and progressiveness of a midfielder.

The man can break lines, disrupt defenses by carrying it forward while also being excellent in his defensive duties like aerial duels. He is special.
Maguire with another brilliant pass – his offensive contributions on display as they are for United.

Maguire was a big miss for England. The passing alone. The vision and execution of those line breakers is something he doesn’t get enough credit for. Beyond from the United lot, obviously

There is a MASSIVE difference in our overall play when Harry Maguire plays. If you’re still calling him a bad player then you’re a casual

And there is the value of Maguire. There have been none of those forward passes from England defenders in the opening two games. Brilliant ball and work by Kane.
