Manchester United ready to offer Cristiano Ronaldo €20m per season in wages
According to the Italian publication Corriere Dello Sport (h/t The Express), Manchester United are not willing to offer Cristiano Ronaldo more than €20m a year in wages.
The Red Devils are currently focused on landing Jadon Sancho, with their interest in Ronaldo remaining lukewarm. Perhaps curiously, that has not prevented us from offering the Juventus star a rather significant wage bill.
Ronaldo is currently in action for Portugal at Euro 2020 and he has insisted that the speculation surrounding his future doesn’t bother him. He has scored thrice in the tournament so far and is now set to face World Champions France in a repeat of the 2016 final.
The 36-year-old has been linked with a return to Old Trafford since he left for Real Madrid back in 2009. He still has a year to go on his Juventus contract but there are massive doubts as to whether he will see it out.
Ronaldo’s agent Jorge Mendes is set to jet to Italy to hold talks over his client’s future. According to the report, the player has a number of proposals on his table. Where United stand with regards to the other offers remains unknown.
Signed by Sir Alex Ferguson, Ronaldo spent six years as a United player between 2003 and 2009. He helped the club to three Premier League titles, the Champions League, the Club World Cup, and the FA Cup.
Despite his age, Ronaldo still continues to deliver. Ronaldo not only topped the Serie A scoring charts but also won the best striker award for the 2020/21 campaign. There is little doubt that despite bring 36, he remains a formidable opponent.

It makes sense that United are keen on landing Sancho over Ronaldo. While the latter will certainly add to our firepower, he is on the wane and could give us maybe two years at best. Sancho meanwhile could go on to become a key player for us in the upcoming decade.
