Sergio Ramos more receptive towards Manchester United than Manchester City
According to AS (h/t Manchester Evening News), Manchester United have been handed an advantage in their pursuit of Spanish ace Sergio Ramos.
The 35-year-old is set to embark on a new challenge following 16 years with Real Madrid. He will be released by the Spanish giants at the end of the month when his contract expires and is free to go where he chooses.
While Manchester has been suggested as a potential destination, the player appears to have more of an affinity towards the Red half of the city. This is good news for United, who are in the market for a central defender this summer.
According to the report, Ramos’ decision is influenced by the historical relevance United have, unlike City. The Premier League champions are a modern side flush with trophies but lack the aura of tradition and historical greatness that transcends generations.
While they could very well go on to achieve such a status in the future, today is not the time. Ramos, who played for Real, is well aware of the reputation that clubs have, and he appears to have been influenced by just that.
A familiar rival
This does not however pave the way for United to reach out and land the Spaniard. French giants Paris Saint-Germain appear to be at the top of his wishlist. PSG have already made an offer that is superior to what United have and are leading the charge to sign Ramos on a free transfer.
However, should the potential move collapse, United will be well placed to make an effort to land the veteran defender.
United and PSG look set to go up against each other along multiple fronts this summer. Apart from Varane, both clubs are also in the fray for Raphael Varane and Kieran Trippier. Moreover, the French giants are also emerging as a potential destination for United star Paul Pogba.

Securing Ramos is, however, unlikely to be a cheap affair. The Spaniard is seeking a mammoth £10m per year in wages. Whether United will be ready to offer such wages to a 35-year-old is debatable.
