Manchester United and Arsenal to battle it out for Dominic Calvert-Lewin
According to Caught Offside, Manchester United and Arsenal will go head to head in their efforts to land Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
The 24-year-old, a product of the Everton youth academy, is coming off a fine 2020/21 season at Goodison Park. Calvert-Lewin has managed an impressive return of 21 goals and 4 assists from 39 games across all competitions.
The Englishman has emerged as one of the finest centre-forwards in the league and could be primed for a big move this summer. However, he will not come cheap and could cost around £80million.
Reports towards the end of last year had indicated that Manchester United had shown an interest in Calvert-Lewin as a potential alternative to primary transfer target, Erling Haaland.
The news has gone cold since then and with us in need of another striker, it remains to be seen if United will rekindle their interest in the player. Currently, with the England squad at the Euros, Calvert-Lewin is at best a second choice thanks to the presence of Harry Kane.
That should however not take away from the fact that he has shown himself to be a capable player at Everton. His physicality combined with his prowess in the air makes him a fearsome opponent for opposition defenders.
Arsenal is in a state of a rebuild after missing out on European football last season. While they are keen on Calvert-Lewin, they will need to sell first before they can buy.
Despite being managerless, Everton is arguably in a better position than Arsenal at this point in time. Exactly what he will gain by moving to the Emirates and is not available at Goodison Park is debatable. A move to Old Trafford however will be a step up.

Signing someone like Calvert-Lewin would be an excellent choice, especially if we also bring in Jadon Sancho. The English striker can hold the ball up well, giving the likes of Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford the chance to move into channels. This is not including the threat he will pose to the opposition on set pieces.
However, a major stumbling block could prove to be Everton’s asking price for the player. Whether United will be willing to pay what it takes to land him is debatable.
