PSG leading the race to land Manchester United target Sergio Ramos
According to AS (h/t Mirror), Manchester United appear to be behind Paris Saint-Germain in the race to land Spanish legend Sergio Ramos this summer.
The 35-year-old is set to leave Real Madrid at the end of the month once his contract comes to an end. It will bring to a close what was an extremely successful 16-year spell with the club.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is well aware that he needs reinforcements in order to challenge for the Premier League title next season. One position that needs reinforcements is the defence and Ramos could prove to be a shrewd addition.
However, it could prove difficult given the interest in the player. Ramos has received a number of offers and appears to favour a move to Paris. PSG are keen to regain their league title and have already signed Georginio Wijnaldum. The French giants could be set to land yet another coveted free agent in the same summer.
Securing Ramos is, however, unlikely to be a cheap affair. The Spaniard is seeking a mammoth £10m per year in wages. Whether United will be ready to offer such wages to a 35-year-old remains to be seen.
United and PSG look set to go up against each other along multiple fronts this summer. Apart from Varane, both clubs are also in the fray for Raphael Varane and Kieran Trippier.
More so the French giants are also emerging as a potential destination for United star Paul Pogba. Hopefully, we will come out on top in most duels, if not all. The Red Devils cannot afford to be lax and should take the initiative in landing their major targets.
