Boost for United as Raphael Varane rejects new Real Madrid contract offer
According to The Mirror, the agents of Real Madrid star Raphael Varane hope to meet with Manchester United this week in order to negotiate the player’s move to Old Trafford.
The 28-year-old is one of the world’s best defenders and could become the second high-profile centre-back to leave the Santiago Bernabeu this summer. Former skipper Sergio Ramos, another player on United’s radar is also on his way out after 16 years with the Spanish giants.
Varane has just over a year left to go on his current deal with Real. The Los Blancos are keen to keep him and had made him an offer of a two-year extension with an option for more. The player has however rejected it and is now on the lookout for a new challenge.
According to the report, Varane is unhappy that Real have chosen to negotiate with Luka Modric, Lucas Vazquez and Sergio Ramos ahead of him. A move to England could now be on the cards, with United leading the race for his signature.
The French ace has also drawn interest from Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain. However, he has his heart set on a move to the Premier League and can be brought for £50million.
Worth the price
The price is admittedly steep for a player who is set to be a free agent next year. However, we could surely be getting our money’s worth. Apart from his ability as a footballer, Varane will also add the know-how of how to go all the way in major tournaments.
Despite our progress, scaling that final hurdle is something that has eluded Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side so far. Adding the celebrated Varane could prove to be the catalyst for a United side that seems to be on the verge of success.

Currently with the French squad, Varane will be aiming to add the European Championship to his already bursting trophy cabinet. The centre-back is in his prime and can write yet another chapter in his career with a successful stint at Old Trafford.
Whether United eventually land their man remains to be seen.
