Manchester United make contact with Spanish legend Sergio Ramos

According to Spanish journalist Jose David Lopez (h/t The Express), Manchester United have made contact with soon-to-be free agent Sergio Ramos.

The Spanish veteran is set to leave Real Madrid at the end of the month once his contract comes to an end. It will bring to a close what was an extremely successful 16-year spell with the club.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is well aware that he needs reinforcements in order to challenge for the Premier League title. One position that needs reinforcements is the defence and Ramos could prove to be a shrewd addition.

Will United land Ramos on a free this summer?

The 35-year-old is nearing the end of his career. However, he seems to have a couple of years left in him and also has shown he possesses the fight and drive needed to succeed.

Lopez admits that Ramos has received numerous offers for his services. The Spaniard is keen to be at the top of his game and is keen to continue fighting for the top titles. The 36-year-old is also keen to be offered a two-year deal and it is possible that such an offer could tip the scales in our favour.

“He is highly valuing the project in which he falls, because he wants to go to a club that continues to compete to win Leagues and [the] Champions [League].”

United may have gone four years without winning a trophy. However, they need just a few signings to go from being challengers to champions. Whether Ramos will be one of those game-changing additions remains to be seen.

A reunion at the Theatre of Dreams?

According to the Mirror, the agents of Real Madrid star Raphael Varane are also set to meet with United over a potential move for the Frenchman.

Securing him in addition to Ramos will reunite a Real Madrid backline that have won them a number of titles in the last ten years. Securing them will grant us strength in depth in what is a weak area of the squad.

Whether we will make overtures for both players or pick one over the other remains to be seen.

Securing Ramos is however unlikely to be a cheap affair. The Spaniard is seeking a mammoth £10m per year in wages. He has also attracted attention from PSG, United and Sevilla. (h/t The Express)
