Bruno Fernandes keen for Manchester United to sign a defensive midfielder and a centre-back
According to The Sun (h/t The Mirror), Manchester United star Bruno Fernandes is keen for the Red Devils to bring in two key reinforcements this summer.
United showed good progress last season but were unable to go the complete mile, falling short in both the Premier League and Europe. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer faces a pivotal summer where he will be keen to strengthen his squad appropriately.
Fernandes was United’s top scorer and assist getter last season. Arguably our best player since his arrival at the club, the Portuguese ace needs more players around him to take United to the next level. Given his performances, it is fair to say that he could do with some help.
According to the report, Fernandes is keen for the club to bring in a new centre-back and a defensive midfielder. Whether he will get his wish remains to be seen.
The Red Devils have been linked with both Declan Rice and Raphael Varane. The former can play both positions while the latter is one of the best central defenders in world football.
Both players are currently at the Euros and have gotten off to a winning start. Rice started in England’s win over Croatia while Varane starred in France’s defeat of Germany. Whether either of them will go all the way in the tournament remains to be seen.
The X-factor
It is pretty evident to anyone who follows United closely that a new centre back is a priority this summer. While we have been linked with a host of names, it remains to be seen who that man will be.
A dynamic defensive midfielder could however be a gamechanger. While Fred and Scott McTominay can do a job, neither of them have the X-factor to give us that extra zest in the middle of the park. Adding another gamechanger in midfield could give us a massive boost next season.

Interestingly, bringing in a new defensive midfielder will not just suit Fernandes but also Paul Pogba. The French ace recently bemoaned the fact that he is often deployed in a withdrawn role at Old Trafford.
