Manchester United to use Kingsley Coman to force Dortmund into selling Jadon Sancho
According to Manchester Evening News, Manchester United could be using their interest in Kingsley Coman to drive home the deal for Jadon Sancho.
The Red Devils have been heavily linked with the Borussia Dortmund star for some time now. Our efforts to land him last summer ended with egg on our face and the player ended up staying at the Westfalenstadion.
According to the Sport1 journalist Florian Plattenberg (h/t The Sun), United had identified Coman as a cheaper alternative to Sancho. That could however be a red herring for us to force Dortmund’s hand.
Such a tactic, if true, is necessary is debatable. After all, not only have Dortmund lowered their asking price this summer but are also ready to sell the player.
It was reported by Fabrizio Romano earlier in the week that United have also agreed on to personal terms with the 21-year-old. A contract until 2026 appears to be in the works as the club looks to complete the deal.
As things stand it is evident that the only thing keeping the deal from completing is the fee involved. Dortmund is seeking €95m for the player’s services.
There is little reason to use Coman as a distraction when all they need to do is improve their opening bid of €69.5m for Sancho. It would perhaps serve us better to get the deal over the line quickly rather than be bogged down in negotiations.
The sooner we can complete the deal for Sancho, the sooner we can focus our attention on other targets. United will do well to show more initiative in the transfer window.

While signing Coman is clearly a feasible option financially, United are better off seeking the deal for Sancho. Not only are we close to reaching an agreement but the Englishman will also grant us the added benefit of being home-grown.
