Boost for Manchester United as Sergio Ramos prepares for Real Madrid exit
According to Spanish publication AS (h/t Daily Star), Manchester United could finally land Sergio Ramos this summer.
The Real Madrid skipper looks set to leave after a trophy-laden 16 years at the Santiago Bernabeu. During this time, he has made 671 appearances, scoring 101 goals and making 40 assists. (h/t Transfermarkt)
As things stand Ramos’ contract expires this month and he will be free to move on a Bosman. Despite turning 35, the veteran ace brings both ability and leadership to the fore.
As per the report, Ramos has not given up on the prospect of Real making him a late offer. He had previously rejected such overtures back in December and March.
The player is keen to sign a two-year deal with the option of a further year depending on performances. Florentino Perez however disagrees and is only prepared to extend his stay by one season.
Another point of contention is the player’s wages. Perez wants Ramos to take a 10% cut in his £312,000-a-week salary. The player however has refused to play ball. Unless a consensus can be reached, Ramos will be playing for a new team come the 2021/22 campaign.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen to bring in a new defender this summer and Ramos’ situation could prove to be a godsend. While he is unlikely to be a long term option, Ramos could do a job for us for the next couple of years.
While United are also linked with Raphael Varane, securing both Real stars would be a massive boost both in terms of strength and depth.
