Former boss Jose Mourinho fires a fresh salvo at Manchester United
According to The Sun, former Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has fired a fresh salvo at the Red Devils, terming their second-placed finish last season as a failure.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side finished the Premier League campaign in second spot behind Manchester City and also made it to the Europa League final. Unfortunately, they failed to take advantage of the opportunity and ended the campaign trophyless.
While we did better in both competition compared to the previous season, Mourinho sees it otherwise.
“I’d say: ‘We finished second. It’s a bad season.”
Mourinho went on to elaborate that he still has a soft spot for United and that the club’s fans have been good to him. Perhaps sarcastically, he goes on to add that a trophyless season is today being considered a positive.
“I think it is good for them that another season without trophies is seen as positive.”
The Portuguese tactician, however, was privy to different expectations during his time at Old Trafford. He was fired after two and a half seasons despite winning two trophies and also leading the club to the second place in the league.
“With me the level of expectation coming from the media is completely different.”
Mourinho’s assertions are not untrue given the leeway Solskjaer has been afforded. The Norwegian has now completed two full seasons in charge but is yet to s
how discernable proof that he has what it takes to get us over the line.A club legend as a player, it is debatable that his status offers him security from criticism that would have been absent otherwise. Just how long that goodwill will last remains to be seen.

It is now four years since United last won silverware. It was under Mourinho that we won our last trophy, the Europa League in 2017. While he is someone who divides opinion, it cannot be argued that he has been our most successful manager in the post Sir Alex Ferguson era.
