David de Gea sends message to fellow Manchester United goalkeeper Joel Pereira after release
Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea sent a message of support to Joel Pereira via his Instagram account as the 24-year-old shot-stopper prepares to find a new club for his future.
Pereira hasn’t had the impact that he would have liked at Manchester United. He signed for United’s youth team all the way back in 2012 but has since managed to make just 3 senior appearances for the club.
With Dean Henderson providing competition to De Gea for starts, it would have been very hard for him to get any appearances under his belt this season as well. And that is why he was loaned out to Huddersfield Town last summer.
But it turned out to be a nightmare spell for him as he made just 2 appearances, conceding 11 goals in that time. There is no point in a player leaving out on loan to warm the bench elsewhere.
Adeus, Joel
The Portuguese stopper can now focus on finding a new club after this month. United announced that the player will be released from the club ahead of next season.
With goalkeepers often training in separate sessions, they are bound to have good relationships at the club. And that is exactly what Pereira and De Gea seemed to have at Old Trafford.
The former Atletico Madrid man sent his best wishes to Pereira via Instagram as he posted pictures of them together with the caption:
“I really wish all the best for you, my friend. You are great in and outside the pitch. I’ll miss you bro! ❤️”

It remains to be seen where he ends up after the summer, but hopefully, it’s a team where he can get a string of starts. He was loaned out to six different clubs during his time at United and it was clear that he did not have a future here.
