Transfer News: Erling Haaland pursued intensely by Chelsea amid Manchester United links

According to Norwegian broadcaster Jan Aage Fjortoft (h/t The Express), Chelsea are ‘working intensely’ in order to get a deal across the line for Erling Haaland, who has been linked with Manchester United.

The Borussia Dortmund striker is pursued by a number of clubs, including Manchester United. But it seems like Chelsea are the ones who want to make the first move for his signature.

Haaland is one of the most exciting strikers in Europe and it comes as no surprise that several clubs are interested in him. He is believed to cost at least £100million with Dortmund telling Mino Raiola, his agent, that they want to keep him until the summer.

His £64million release clause would be activated next summer and United, alongside Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Liverpool would be interested in matching that amount. But the Blues apparently want a deal this summer itself.

Hard road ahead for United

The report mentions that Chelsea are confident of working their way around a transfer fee that could be very high. However, his wage demands could pose as a stumbling block for the Blues.

There is no doubt that the 20-year-old is a quality striker. He bagged 41 goals in 41 appearances for BVB this season as they qualified for the UEFA Champions League next season.

United fell short of the Premier League title this season by a significant margin despite finishing 2nd. And Haaland is one player that has the potential to bridge that gap all on his own.

He has worked with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Molde, and a reunion with the gaffer would undoubtedly please the entire United fanbase. But with so many teams after him and a price tag that can touch the 8-figure mark, United would know that signing Haaland will not be an easy task.
