Transfer News: Youri Tielemans price tag revealed as Manchester United links continue
According to Belgian journalist Sven Claes (h/t LeicestershireLive), Manchester United ‘want to sign’ Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans.
The Foxes midfielder has impressed since his move from AS Monaco in 2019 for a fee of around £40million. And his winning goal in the FA Cup final has raised his stocks, with Liverpool heavily linked for a move in the summer.
The Reds are set to lose Georginio Wijnaldum as a free agent, while Naby Keita, who is a Leicester target, could also be sold. However, the Merseysiders would have to compete with United for Tielemans’ signature. (h/t LeciestershireLive)
And his price tag has now been revealed, with clubs potentially having to fork out somewhere near £55million in order to sign him. However, both Premier League outfits could be priced out of a move due to the financial effects of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Tielemans to United?
Nevertheless, Tielemans is a quality midfielder who would instantly challenge for starts at Old Trafford. Fred has struggled at times over the most recent season while Paul Pogba could also do with some competition.
And former Leicester striker Kevin Phillips has recently stated that the UEFA Champions League berth is something that could sway Tielemans away from the King Power Stadium.
“I think everyone is available for the right price… Especially now that Leicester won’t be getting Champions League football next year after just missing out while Liverpool have; that’s a big, big draw for any player.”
