Glazers sanction renovation work at Old Trafford and Carrington after Fans Forum

According to Daily Mail (h/t Metro), the Glazers have sanctioned renovation work at Carrington and Old Trafford in the coming months after a historic Fans’ Forum last week.

The Fans’ Forum took place after serious backlash from United fans regarding the European Super League. The Red Devils were one of the founding members of the breakaway league but protests by fans ensured that United cut their ties with the venture.

That, added with years of loading debt on the club, pressured the Manchester United owners into speaking with the supporters. And one area of discussion was the training facility as well as the Old Trafford stadium.

Ever since the Glazers took over, the stadium hasn’t seen an increase in seating capacity. On top of that, there have been a number of embarrassing episodes such as the roof leaking water. (h/t Metro)

But the report now states that there will be floodlights added to both venues, with the home and away dressing rooms also getting an upgrade. Apart from that, Covid-secure ticketing systems, as well as 1500 barrier seats, will be installed.

Speaking in the Fans’ Forum, Joel Glazer insisted that renovations are an important part of their plans.

“Old Trafford is at the heart of Manchester United. And while we have spent over £100m over the last 10 years on infrastructure projects, we will now accelerate the process of planning much more significant investment and upgrades to the stadium. Rest assured, we will consult with supporters throughout the process to end up with a result we can all be proud of.”

It seems that the European Super League, however grim in its implications and intentions, proved to be a blessing in disguise. The owners now seem more open than ever to lend their ears to the demand of the fans.
