Manchester United slammed for being ‘disrespectful’ during Europa League award ceremony
According to The Daily Star, Manchester United have been slammed for being disrespectful during the Europa League award ceremony on Wednesday night.
The Red Devils lost the showpiece event to Villarreal in a penalty shootout that looked like it would never end. In the end, it was David de Gea who ended up with the unfortunate miss to hand the Spaniards the title.
It was a rather tragic end to what looked to be a pivotal season under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. While there is still much progress that has been made, losing the final took the sheen out of the season’s success.
The United players were understandably dejected at full time. It came as no surprise that they appeared less than enthusiastic about receiving their runners-up medals.
Stars like Harry Maguire, Marcus Rashford and Paul Pogba were all seen removing their medals straightaway. While some fans chose to categorize it as ‘winning mentality’, others chose to view it as being disrespectful.
Speaking after the game, Rashford admitted that it is time United started winning trophies again. We have not won a competition since 2017 and it is high time we brought that barren run to an end.

The fact that the United players took off their medals does not in any way disparage the competition or anyone involved with it. It is never easy to lose a major final and the players have every right to be upset.
Them taking off tokens that reminded them of their failure is an understandable reaction. We really should stop trying to read too much into innocuous gestures.
