Transfer News: Jose Mourinho keen on signing Manchester United star Sergio Romero at AS Roma
According to The Telegraph (h/t The Sun), former Manchester United manager, Jose Mourinho is plotting a reunion with Red Devils outcast Sergio Romero.
The Portuguese tactician was dismissed by Tottenham Hotspur last month. It was then announced that he would take over Italian giants AS Roma in the summer.
Despite not yet taking charge, Mourinho is already putting plans into place for his vision of Roma. The latest United star to feature in it is Romero.
Romero has fallen out of favour at United and has not featured for the club since last season. It is pretty evident that he will be bidding goodbye to the Theatre of Dreams at the end of the season.
The 34-year-old shares an excellent relationship with Mourinho from their time together at United. The 58-year-old is keen to improve Roma’s goalkeeping department and believes the Argentine can be the solution.
Signed in 2015 by Louis van Gaal, Romero has been an excellent backup keeper who has performed when called upon. He has let in only 27 goals in 61 games for United, keeping an impressive 37 clean sheets. (h/t Transfermarkt)

Roma are also reported to be interested in David de Gea. However, securing Romero would prove to be a cheaper alternative for the Italians.
Not only is the Argentine a free agent in the summer, but his wages are also much lower than that commanded by De Gea. The Spaniard is currently the top earner at Old Trafford.
The Red Devils are also set to dive into the Bosman market to replace Romero. Aston Villa keeper Tom Heaton, who began his career at United, looks set to return on a free transfer this summer.
