Manchester United vs Liverpool team news: Solskjaer ready to unleash big guns

According to the team news on club’s official website, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is set to welcome back his big names as Manchester United prepare to take on Liverpool later tonight.

He made 10 changes to the side that took the field against Leicester City on Tuesday. Mason Greenwood was the lone major first XI star who started against the Foxes.

With games coming thick and fast, the Norwegian had little choice but to rest his major stars last time around. He could not unleash them against Jurgen Klopp’s side tonight.

Solskjaer will have an almost full-strength squad of players to choose from. The only major absentee will be skipper Harry Maguire, who could potentially be out for the season.

Anthony Martial continues to remain on the sidelines while winger Daniel James is also a doubt. Marcus Rashford too has had injuries of late while Bruno Fernandes has suffered from fatigue after a long season.

Both players could be set for a return after being dropped to the bench against Leicester. Striker Edinson Cavani has also been in fine form and looks set to return to the starting XI.

Maguire will be the major absentee for United on the night

David de Gea made his first Premier League start for the club in February last time around. It would be fair to assume that he will make way for Dean Henderson later tonight.

The likes of Luke Shaw, Victor Lindelof, Scott McTominay, Fred and Paul Pogba were all rested against Leicester. It would be a surprise if they failed to return to action tonight.

Liverpool meanwhile continue to struggle with injuries to key players. The Merseysiders will be without central defenders Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez, Joel Matip, Ozan Kabak and Ben Davies.

James Milner and Jordan Henderson could also be absent while Naby Keita and Divock Origi have also picked up knocks. Given the injuries and the difference in form, nothing but three points should be the aim tonight.
