Transfer News: Manchester United keeping a keen eye on Getafe star Mauro Arambarri
According to Traspasos (h/t Sport Witness), Manchester United are interested in Getafe midfielder Mauro Arambarri heading into the summer transfer window.
The Red Devils are in the market for a defensive midfielder and are keeping a close watch on the 25-year-old. Arambarri has been a key part of the Spaniards and has made 34 appearances for them this season, scoring three goals. (h/t Transfermarkt)
There is a belief in the United board that the Uruguayan is a budget option that can fit their needs. As per the report, he will cost the club around €30m.
Interestingly, the player is represented by Jonathan Barnett. The superagent also represents other United targets Jack Grealish, Saul Niguez and Eduardo Camavinga. Red Devils stars Luke Shaw and Dean Henderson are also associated with him.
Capable of playing a dual role in central midfield, Arambarru is a decent player. It however remains to be seen if he can make the step up at Old Trafford.
Nemanja Matic is not getting any younger while Fred lacks the ability to contribute on the counterattack. It is debatable if the Getafe ace is an upgrade on either Red Devils ace.
Arambarri made his senior bow at the Uruguayan team Defensor Sporting before moving to Europe with French side Bordeaux in 2016.
He lasted a year in France before returning to his homeland with Boston River. A loan spell at Getafe in 2017/18 saw him impress with the Spaniards making the deal permanent at the end of the season.

Arambarri is a rather underwhelming choice given the need for us to supplement the squad we have with world-class quality. While the 25-year-old may develop into just that in the future, he at best appears to be a decent player today.
The midfielder has won four caps with the Uruguayan senior side since debuting in 2020. Arambarri has two more years to go on his current contract.
