Manchester United Transfer News: Southampton face competition for Brandon Williams

According to transfer news from FootballFanCast, Southampton have been handed a blow in their pursuit for Manchester United starlet Brandon Williams. The Saints are set to face competition from the likes of Norwich and West Ham for the left-back’s signature.

The 20-year-old enjoyed a breakout season in 2019/20 due to Luke Shaw’s injuries, However, he has failed to hit the same heights this season. In fact, he made just 12 appearances this season, making a solitary assist. (h/t Transfermarkt)

Capable of playing on either flank, Williams is a two-way player who can bomb up and down the pitch. However, it must be admitted that he does have some development to do before he can make it at United.

The Saints made an attempt to sign him on loan in February. However, they failed and the player stayed put at Old Trafford. They look set to rekindle their efforts again this summer.

However, it has been reported that Norwich and West Ham will also go after the English fullback. Manchester United will prefer he heads to the Hammers given he can play European football next season there.

With Luke Shaw and Alex Telles locking horns in the left-back position, Williams’ chances of overtaking either of them are minute.

Meanwhile, on the other flank, Aaron Wan-Bissaka is the first-choice right-back and United are also keen to bring in a backup for him in the summer. A decent player, it wouldn’t hurt Williams to see if there are greener pastures elsewhere, at least on a temporary basis.
