Transfer News: Real Madrid offer contract to Manchester United target Lucas Vazquez
According to transfer news from Daily Mail, Manchester United have received a blow in their pursuit for Lucas Vazquez. The Spaniard has been offered a new contract from Real Madrid in a bid to fend off interest from clubs like United and Chelsea.
The 29-year-old has spent his career at Real Madrid, barring a single season on loan at Espanyol. A three-time Champions League winner, he is a part of the Los Blancos side that has dominated the competition in the recent past.
A winger, manager Zinedine Zidane has largely used the player as a wing-back this season. His current deal runs out at the end of this season, making him a free agent.
This prompted United to earmark the Spaniard as a potential backup to Aaron Wan-Bissaka at right-back, a position United lack depth in.
However, United’s hopes of landing the player on a free transfer have been given a blow. Real Madrid have now offered him a better wage packet of £84,000-a-week, which is an increase from his current pay.
Bayern Munich, PSG and Everton were also credited with an interest but all the suitors might have to walk away empty-handed.

While Vazquez is a utility option to have, United should be looking at specialist players. In all honesty, the club need to look at other better options to provide competition to Wan-Bissaka. Missing out on Vazquez shouldn’t hurt much in that regard.
