Manchester United keen to sign Pau Torres ahead of the summer’s Euros
According to l Larguero (h/t The Metro), Manchester United are keen to complete the signing of Pau Torres ahead of this summer’s European championship.
The Red Devils are keen to bring in a new central defender to partner Harry Maguire in defence. The club’s attention appears to be on La Liga with Sevilla’s Jules Kounde and Real Madrid’s Raphael Varane also in the fray.
All attention appears to be on Torres as United close in on signing the Villarreal star. There is every chance that he might line up against us if both teams make it to the Europa League final.
Spain kick off their Euro 2021 campaign against Sweden on June 14. With a month and a half to go, the Red Devils are keen to wrap up a deal by then. While there are other teams in the fray, United appear to be leading the race to sign Torres.
Villarreal are keen for United to meet Torres’ £43.4m release clause, which could rise to £56.4m in the final 15 days of the summer transfer window. This is just another reason for the Red Devils to seek a quick resolution.
At just 24, Torres isn’t just an experienced player at the right age but is also left-footed. This is an added bonus and gives Solskjaer the option of fielding Maguire on the right-hand side of the defence.
The Spaniard has also had conversations with his teammates who have played at other big clubs. It would appear that he appears to be priming himself to move in the summer. Whether United will be the beneficiaries remains to be seen.
