Manchester United ban three fans following Son Heung-Min online abuse
According to The Athletic (Subscription Required), Manchester United have suspended three season ticket holders after they sent racially abusive messages to Tottenham Hotspur star Heung-Min Son on social media.
The incident occurred during our 3-1 win over the North London outfit earlier this month. The South Korean was involved in an incident that saw Edinson Cavani’s opener on the night chalked off.
While it is fair to say that Son did make a meal of the incident, some fans took their frustrations too far. It boiled over after the player opened the scoring for Spurs later in the day.
A number of fans took to social media to vent their frustrations at Son. Tottenham too took exception to the reaction, terming the attack on their forward as abhorrent.
United have announced they have begun proceedings against six individuals over the abuse, three of those being season ticket holders. What action will be taken against the other three remains to be seen.
This piece of news comes ahead of the social media boycott to be organized across English football for the next few days against discrimination. Clubs across the country will observe a social media boycott from 15:00 BST on Friday 30 April to 23:59 BST on Monday 3 May.
A number of United players, namely Anthony Martial, Fred and Paul Pogba have all fallen prey to such attacks in recent months. The Red Devils also flagged off the ‘SEE RED’ initiative earlier this month to combat such behaviour on social media.

It is good to see that United have taken the initiative in punishing those guilty of not adhering to social standards and basic decency.
Change starts from within and we hope others clubs too come forward and punish those guilty of spreading hate and discrimination. After all, there is no place for any of that on the football pitch.
