Team News: The latest as Manchester United prepare to face Liverpool

According to the club’s official site, Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has no major injury concerns to be worried about ahead of the clash against Liverpool.

Anthony Martial and Phil Jones are the only absentees as we get ready to welcome our biggest rivals. The former has been badly out of form while the latter has not featured all season. It is fair to say that the Red Devils will be missing neither player this weekend.

“No it doesn’t look like we got any bad injuries.”

Solskjaer admits that his players are tired from the exertions of last night. However, morale must be high given the result. Liverpool, on the other hand, had a whole week to rest but have been far from their best this season.

Both Dean Henderson and Daniel James were rested against Roma but featured in the 0-0 draw with Leeds. Mason Greenwood only played the last quarter of an hour while the likes of Alex Telles, Eric Bailly and Donny van de Beek are also available.

“I don’t think you can take anything for granted in any game. We have to wait until Sunday morning to see how the players are.”

Despite holding a four-goal lead ahead of next week’s trip to the Stadio Olimpico, Solskjaer is not taking anything for granted. Given his comments, it would be interesting to see what side he picks against Liverpool.

“We need to see who is really fresh and fit to play against Liverpool because you definitely don’t take anything for granted in the knock-out phase, even when you’re four goals up in a semi-final.”

The Merseysiders are still without their three primary centre-backs in Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip. Nathaniel Phillips is a doubt with a hamstring issue while skipper Jordan Henderson and Divock Origi are also set to miss out.

Solskjaer is yet to beat Liverpool in the league since taking over at Old Trafford. Given the disparity in form and fitness at the moment between the two sides, the Norwegian has an excellent opportunity to end that run.
