Manchester United willing to swap Donny van de Beek for Nicolo Zaniolo
According to Roma News (h/t The Express), Manchester United were willing to part ways with Donny van de Beek to sign AS Roma wonderkid Nicolo Zaniolo.
The Dutchman joined United last summer and was our marquee signing. Despite his ability, Van de Beek has struggled to impress at Old Trafford.
The 24-year-old has had his moments but they have been few and far between. In fact, most of them have come off the bench.
This has led to much speculation that the Red Devils will cut their losses going into the summer. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen to strengthen his squad and the Dutchman could be one of the players to make way.
According to the report, the Red Devils attempted to use Van de Beek as bait to lure Roma into selling Zaniolo. While the Italians are keen on the Dutchman, they are in no mood to sell their prized youngster.
The 21-year-old is one of the finest young players in the Italian top-flight. Unfortunately, a couple of cruciate ligament injuries have seen him make just a handful of appearances in the last two years.
Despite his injuries, Zaniolo remains a much sought-after youngster. His progress in Italy also saw him get compared to United superstar Paul Pogba. (h/t The Express)
