10000 Manchester United fans expected to gather outside Old Trafford to protests against the Glazers

According to The Daily Mail, around 10000 Manchester United fans are expected to assemble outside Old Trafford this Sunday to protest against the Glazers and their ownership of the club.

These protests will form the backdrop of our clash against Liverpool. For the first time in years, matters off the pitch will be considered more important than that on it against our arch-rivals.

The police are aware of the planned protests while the club has done their bit to beef up security protocols.

The banner that was flown over Elland Road

The Glazers took over United in 2005 and have remained as unpopular as ever amongst the club’s faithful supporters. During their reign, more than £1billion has been drained from United in bank fees and dividend payments. (h/t The Daily Mail)

Add to it the club’s recent commitment to join the European Super League, the fans have had enough. A group of fans stormed the club’s Carrington training base last week while a banner denouncing the owners was flown over Elland Road.

Despite the club pulling out of the controversial breakout league and Joel Glazer tendering an open letter, fans appear to be in no mood to listen.

Protestors to gather outside Old Trafford once again

In fact, they gathered in their thousands outside the Theatre of Dreams last Saturday. It would appear that a similar crowd could congregate this week as well.

The planned protest will start at 2 pm ahead of the 4.30 pm kick-off. The gathering will be peaceful and social distancing protocols will be in effect.

The club for their part have acknowledged that the fans have the right to stage a peaceful protest and are planning accordingly.

Glazers have never been particularly liked at Old Trafford.

The protestors will voice their support for the application of a rule similar to Germany’s 50+1. According to a rule, the club’s members control 50% of voting shares plus one share. This prevents majority takeovers by external investors. The fans will also call for the Glazers to sell the club.
