Newcastle United are preparing a transfer bid for Manchester United target Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

Manchester United make offer for Dominic Calvert-Lewin

According to transfer news update from English journalist Leah Smith on Twitter, Manchester United have already made an offer for Everton star Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

The 24-year-old, a product of the Everton youth academy, is enjoying a fine season this time out. So far in 2020/21, Calvert-Lewin has managed an impressive return of 19 goals and 4 assists from 33 games across all competitions.

On the back of his form, the striker also broke into the England national team in October last year, for whom he has already scored four times in seven games.

Reports towards the end of last year had indicated that Manchester United had shown an interest in Calvert-Lewin as a potential alternative to primary transfer target, Erling Haaland.

And, now, as per the update from Smith, Manchester United have already made an approach for Calvert-Lewin. However, the journalist does go on to add that Everton value their 24-year-old prized asset at a massive £80m.

Heading into what will be a hugely pivotal transfer window for the team, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer & co. need to sign a centre-forward. While Edinson Cavani has done well since joining on a free transfer last summer, his contract runs out at the end of the season.

Anthony Martial, meanwhile, has endured a difficult 2020/21 campaign, failing to kick on from an impressive 2019/20 term. So, an infallible goalscorer is something that this Manchester United team requires if we are to take the next step under Ole.

And, Calvert-Lewin, judging by the progress he has made over the past couple of years, certainly has the potential to be the main centre-forward for Manchester United.

However, the valuation does seem a bit too steep and it remains to be seen if the club returns with another offer for the 24-year-old.
