Chris Sutton warns Manchester United to be wary of AS Roma on set pieces
Writing in his column for The Daily Mail, Chris Sutton has warned Manchester United of the threat AS Roma possesses during set-pieces.
The Red Devils take on the Italians in the first leg of their Europa League semi-finals later tonight. A win will give us a massive boost in the efforts to end a four-year trophy drought.
While Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side go into the tie as the in-form team, Roma are no pushovers. In fact, Ajax Amsterdam dominated them for vast periods in their quarter-final tie, only to be beaten in the end.
The dagger blows for Ajax came in the form of two strikes orchestrated from set-pieces. Sutton has urged United to be wary of a similar approach.
He goes on to add that United will have to be clinical on the night and make their chances count. Doing so will aid them in their quest to end the season on a high.
“Manchester United know they are the better team but they need to be clinical with any chances that come their way. That is how they can win their first trophy under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.”
With the likes of Edin Dzeko and Chris Smalling in their ranks, Roma will have players who are adept at attacking the dead ball. Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof, in particular, should be on their toes to prevent that.
Speaking ahead of the game, Solskjaer namedropped Dzeko as Roma’s major threat. It is fair to say that the Italians won’t catch United napping.
