Solskjaer hopes to start a Manchester United dynasty with Europa League success
According to The Daily Mail, Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer believes it will be a dream come true for him to win the Europa League this season.
The Red Devils are just 180 minutes away from the showpiece event against either Arsenal or Villarreal. All that is standing in their way are Roma, who too are keen to end a 13-year wait for a trophy.
Having missed out at the semifinal stage four times as United manager, Solskjaer is keen to go one better this time around.
“It will be a dream come true the day I can lift a trophy for this club as manager, of course. That’s what we’re building for.”
Solskjaer is no stranger to winning honours with United. However, all of them so far have come as a player. He is keen to bring about a habit of success and believes winning the Europa League will help achieve that.
“Our ambition is to finish with lifting a trophy and being able to celebrate. I know how much that can mean for a group moving forward.”
The Norwegian admits that United do have a history in the tournament though it may not be Europe’s top tier. He is keen to relive the glory of 2017 when we went all the way under Jose Mourinho.
Lesson learnt!
With a top-four finish in the Premier League all but secured and little hope in the title race, the Europa League represents United’s best bet to win a trophy this season.
Solskjaer believes the club is in a better position than last season to go all the way. The Red Devils fell to eventual champions Sevilla in the semi-finals last time around.
“The players have had another year, they’re more experienced and they’ve come through difficult times.”
