Manchester United make an approach to Juventus for Dejan Kulusevski
According to Italian outlet Il Biancanero (h/t Sport Witness), Manchester United are ramping up efforts to sign Juventus winger Dejan Kulusevski.
The 21-year-old came through the Swedish club IF Brommapojkarna before joining Atalanta in 2016. He impressed on loan at Parma in 2019/20 where he caught the attention of United for the first time.
While we were keen on signing him, Juventus beat us to his signature. His stay at the Turin giants has however has not gone according to plan. With just six goals and four assists in 41 appearances, he hasn’t really got the ball rolling.
The Red Devils appear to have reignited their interest in recent weeks. The report suggests that United have come forward in an effort to sign the player in the summer.
However, Juventus want nothing to do with it. The Turin giants are keen to keep the player and believe he is someone they can build their team around.
Capable of playing in a variety of attacking roles, the 21-year-old’s versatility would have been a major asset to United. He has in the past been compared to Liverpool superstar Mohamed Salah.
Addressing a key weakness
While United have done well this season, we have been over-reliant on both Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford for goals. Diversifying our source of goals is something that we need to address in the window.
It is debatable if Kulusevski would have come in and made a major impact from the go. After all, the young Swede does have some ways to go before he could be counted upon at the top level.
For now, it would appear his future lies at the Allianz Stadium. Whether this will change in the future remains to be seen.
