Cristiano Ronaldo in talks over potential Manchester United return
According to The Express, Cristiano Ronaldo has held discussions with Manchester United over a two-year deal that will bring him back to Old Trafford this summer.
The Portuguese superstar is one of the best players in the history of the game. Despite turning 36, Ronaldo continues to impress and has scored 25 goals in 29 Serie A appearances for Juventus this season.
This has however failed to translate into collective success for Juventus. The Turin giants face a fight on their hands to qualify for the Champions League next season. Failure to do so could see them cash in on Ronaldo.
Ronaldo, who has won the Champions League with United and Real Madrid, has so far drawn a blank with Juventus. Given his age, he is running out of time to add a sixth European crown.
Unlike Juventus, United look to be ahead of the Italian giants in their rebuild project. Having spent six fruitful years at Old Trafford, Ronaldo is a well-loved figure amongst the Red Devils faithful.
United are currently keen to offer him a new deal. However, they require him to take a pay cut in order for the deal to go through. He currently earns a whopping £27million a year at Juventus.
Money talks
United are not the only team in the fray. In fact, Ronaldo’s agent, Jorge Mendes has also reached out to Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and his side will be keen to welcome Ronaldo back to Old Trafford. However, it will depend on whether the Portuguese sensation is willing to accept half of what he currently earns.
United have focussed on signing young players in recent years. Despite his impact, paying Ronaldo even half of what he current earns, especially in his twilight years, would be poor investment.

Ronaldo for his part does not appear to be ready to take the pay cut. If that continues to be the case, United are better off looking elsewhere. After all, we have seen there is life after his departure and can find better value elsewhere.
