Transfer News: Manchester United switch their attention to Jules Kounde
According to transfer news from Daily Star, Manchester United have turned their attention to Jules Kounde. While the Red Devils were initially after Raphael Varane, Chelsea’s entry into the race means that United could look to his fellow La Liga defender Kounde.
It is no hidden secret that Manchester United are pushing to sign a new centre-back ahead of next season. And it makes sense for the club to do so despite the recent improvements at the back.
Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof have been inconsistent while Eric Bailly is an injury-prone player and is soon set to enter the final year of his contract as well. So a new central defender who can be an improvement on the current options is a must.
Varane was a possible target for United, with Real Madrid president Florentino Perez opening the door for a transfer. However, it has been reported that Varane is Thomas Tuchel’s number one target. That has led United to turn their attention to Jules Kounde of Sevilla.
The French youngster has impressed at Sevilla recently. He is a big reason behind his team’s sumptuous defensive record this season in La Liga, having conceded just 21 goals in 29 games.
Sevilla triumphed in the UEFA Europa League last season, with Kounde playing a big part in that run. The 22-year-old continues to go from strength to strength as he has become an irreplaceable figure in Julen Lopetegui’s team.

The U-21 French International has 83 senior appearances for Sevilla already and has scored 5 times. He really looks like a mature defender who could slot straight into United’s line-up despite being just 22.
With Varane now a prime target for Chelsea, Manchester United would do well to focus their attention on Kounde and complete a deal for him.
