Thomas Tuchel asks Chelsea to sign Raphael Varane amidst interest from Manchester United
According to The Metro, Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel is keen to sign Raphael Varane, a major summer target for Manchester United.
The German has improved Chelsea’s fortune and has lead them to the finals of the FA Cup and the semifinals of the UEFA Champions League. With 10 clean sheets in 12 games so far, he has built a fairly solid defensive setup.
Despite this, Tuchel is keen to strengthen further in the summer. He has now identified the Real Madrid ace as one of his major targets.
Varane has spent a successful decade with Real Madrid and is currently set to enter the final year of his contract. With the prospect of losing him on a free transfer next year, the Spanish giants are willing to sell him for at least £51m this summer.
United are keen to bring in a defender to partner skipper Harry Maguire in defence. There is a widespread belief at the club that Varane is just the man for the job.
The Red Devils have been long-term admirers of the French international. Varane was on United’s radar even when he was at Metz. However, he rejected a chance to move to Old Trafford after the Red Devils signed promising Englishman Phil Jones in 2011. (h/t Independent)
As things stand, United appear to be on the front foot when it comes to signing the player. He is ready for a new challenge and is not averse to linking up with us at Old Trafford.
Tuchel, meanwhile, is keen to play spoilsport and throw a dagger in the works. Chelsea will come up against Varane when both teams face off in the Champions League semifinals later this season.

One of the finest defenders in world football, Varane has so far made 355 appearances for Madrid. He was also a part of the Les Bleus side that won the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
A player in his prime, Varane would be a solid addition to the United backline. We should do everything in our power to ensure he joins instead of a direct rival.
