Aleksander Caferin accuses Manchester United VC Ed Woodward of being a snake

According to The Independent, UEFA chief Aleksander Caferin has come out swinging against Manchester United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward.

United are among the teams involved in creating the breakaway European Super League. The new format will concentrate power into the hands of select clubs, eliminating the principle of a fair sport.

The Red Devils are one of the ring leaders involved in the enterprise and even quit the European Club Association along with the others 12 teams involved. Woodward also relinquished his role at UEFA following yesterday’s announcement.

“We didn’t know we had snakes so close to us. Now we know.”

Caferin minced no words in launching an extraordinary attack against those involved. He revealed that the footballing world, for now, stands united behind the self-serving approach of a few.

“I cannot stress more strongly at this moment Uefa and the footballing world stand united against the disgraceful, self-serving proposal.”

A key player!

One of the major players behind the enterprise, Woodward was also in the firing line as the UEFA chief held nothing back. He accused the United executive of negotiating in bad faith while a new Champions League format was being drawn up.

“If I start with Ed Woodward, he called me last Thursday evening saying he’s very satisfied with and fully supports the reforms and the only thing he want to talk about was FFP [Financial Fair Play], when obviously he had already signed something else.”

Waoodward appears to have dealt in bad faith

Caferin also fired a shot at Untied for adopting the so-called superclub tag. He questioned whether we would still have been considered the same had the Sir Alex Ferguson era not happened.

He has gone on to indicate that a major reason behind this enterprise is to cover for the poor financial management at the clubs involved.

“Man United before Sir Alex Ferguson was I don’t know where. Why are they creating this? Because they are not managed right [financially]”

Lying to your own side

It would appear Caferin is not the only one who should feel betrayed by Woodward. The United honcho had earlier claimed that fans would be made privy to any decision involving United’s participation in the Super League.

Clearly, that has not been the case and fans have since come out in protest against the club’s decision.

Caferin also went in hard on Juventus honcho Andrea Agnelli who he named the biggest liar of all. It appears clear that UEFA is in no mood to forgive or forget.

It comes as no surprise that Woodward may have played both sides during his negotiations with UEFA and the ESL.
