Solskjaer admits that Manchester United star Marcus Rashford cannot last the 90 minutes
According to The Times (Subscription Required), Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed that star attacker Marcus Rashford cannot last a full game.
The United star has struggled with injuries of late and was an unused substitute against Granada last week. Anthony Martial’s absence saw him return to the starting line-up yesterday against Burnley.
Rashford did not find the back of the net and lasted 84 minutes before being taken off.
Following the game, Solskjaer admitted that while he did attempt to see his ace complete the match, he was just unable to do so.
“I was trying to force 90 minutes out of him but he was too sore”
Solskjaer went on to add that Rashford experiences discomfort and is often in pain once he crossed the 60-70 minute threshold. Given that is the case, it is irresponsible by the United boss to try to get 90 minutes out of him.
“It’s a pain that comes after he has played for 60 or 70 minutes. He lasted almost 80 so that was progress.”
Rashford has played the full 90 minutes only once in his last five Premier League games. While he continues to produce on the field, the injuries beginning to affect him are troubling.
The issue is also a concern to English manager Gareth Southgate heading into the summer’s Euros. To put things into context, Rashford has failed has not completed a full 90 minutes since the win over West Ham United in mid-March.
The 23-year-old has so far made 49 appearances for United this season. During this time, he has managed to score 20 goals and make 13 assists across all competitions. (h/t Transfermarkt)

Solskjaer’s dependence on Rashford is clear for all to see. While United have done well, they have been overly reliant on Rashford and Fernandes for inspiration more often than not.
The toll appears to be showing on the player’s body and Solskjaer will do well to ensure he stays protected.
