Transfer News: Chelsea to battle Manchester United for Raphael Varane
According to transfer news from Express, Chelsea are all set to go after Raphael Varane, who has been linked to Manchester United. The Blues have registered an interest in the Real Madrid defender, who has long been chased by United.
The 27-year-old is one of the best defenders in the game and has won numerous accolades with both club and country. His current deal at United runs until 2022 and he is yet to commit his future to Los Blancos.
While Zinedine Zidane is keen to keep the defender, Real are worried about losing the player for free next year. The best chance of them being able to recoup any sort of cash would be to sell the player next season. There has been no indication yet that he is willing to extend his stay at the Bernabeu.
That has led to teams like United going after the player but Christian Falk of BILD reported that Chelsea have now emerged as competitors for his signature.
United are keen to bring in a defender to partner skipper Harry Maguire in defence. United are currently rebuilding their team and Varane would be an excellent addition to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side.
He would not just add world-class quality but also bring with him a world of championship-winning experience to a team that sorely needs it.
