Transfer News: Manchester United best positioned to sign Pau Torres
According to transfer news from Daily Mail (h/t La Razon), Manchester United are well-positioned to sign Pau Torres. While Torres was linked to La Liga heavyweights Real Madrid and Barcelona, both have ruled out the possibility of signing the Villarreal defender, leaving United a clear path.
The 24-year-old has emerged as one of the transfer targets for Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Even Real Madrid were said to be after Torres. Over the last few months, several centre-backs such as Raphael Varane and Jules Kounde have emerged on Manchester United’s radar.
The general feeling is that the club are looking at a long-term partner for Harry Maguire. The fact that Torres is left-footed also appeals to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who is keen on someone like that so that Maguire can be played on the right.
It was widely expected that either Real Madrid or Barcelona would make the move for the Spaniard. However, La Razon refuted those claims, citing that Barcelona have ruled out a move and Real Madrid are more focused on David Alaba.

This does come as a huge boost for United with two of the bigger clubs out of the running to sign him.
There is clearly a need for another new centre-back to partner Maguire, with Lindelof underwhelming and Eric Bailly being injury prone. Pau Torres could represent a significant and useful bit of investment for us in that regard.
