Transfer News: Manchester United opt to move for Pau Torres this summer
According to Spanish publication La Razon, Manchester United have opted to sign Pau Torres over Jules Kounde in the summer.
The Red Devils were keeping tabs on both players in their hunt for a new centre-back in the summer. While Kounde has shown himself to be an excellent player, his massive €90m release clause has been a major obstacle.
In comparison, Torres’s clause stands at a relatively lower €65m. Although Sevilla are willing to negotiate for Kounde, Torres is seen as the affordable alternative.
The Red Devils have already reached out to Torres’ entourage regarding a summer switch. The player appears to be keen but sources close to him have denied the same.
The Yellow submarines are also keen to have any interested team meet their release clause for the Spanish international. They will also not entertain any players to be included as part of the deal.
Now that Villarreal have stated their conditions to sanction Torres’ sale, the onus is now on United to match it.
Already in motion!
The Spaniard also appear to be preparing for life without Torres. Efforts are being made to bring in Juan Foyth on a permanent transfer.
The 23-year-old is currently on loan from Tottenham Hotspur and has shown promise. While Villarreal has a €15m option to do just that, they are seeking to lower the price. Quite ironical given their stand on Torres.
There is no love lost between Spurs and United and it remains to be seen if Foyth could be the difference between us signing or missing out on Torres.

Having come through the ranks at Villarreal, the Spaniard got his big break with the first-team last season following an impressive loan spell with Malaga. Since then, he has gone from strength to strength.
Torres has so far made 34 appearances for them this season, scoring three goals. (h/t Transfermarkt)
