Report: Veteran Man United star set for summer exit from the club

David de Gea to bid goodbye to Manchester United at the end of the season

According to the Mirror, Spanish superstar David de Gea is all set to leave Manchester United at the end of the season.

The departure will bring an end to what has been a largely fruitful 10-year spell at the Theatre of Dreams. The 30-year-old is, on his day, one of the finest goalkeepers in world football and has often been a one-man wall at the back.

Once considered undroppable, De Gea’s form has petered off the last few seasons. While he remains a solid player, the emergence of Dean Henderson will have given United more hope going into the future.

The Englishman has been De Gea’s understudy this season. However, he stepped up to the fore last month when the Spaniard flew to Madrid for his child’s birth.

Henderson’s performances appear to have helped Solskajer make up his mind as he finally looks set to make a decision on who his number one is. De Gea’s departure, however, will not come cheap.

The player still has two years left on his current deal and is at £350,000-a-week wages, United’s top earner, any move to call time on his contract will lead to us having to pay him a generous amount.

A cull of the position!

At 24, Henderson has his best years ahead of him. Although he has the capacity to make mistakes, he has been largely solid and will only improve.

With De Gea potentially gone, Henderson’s time may have come to establish himself as the first choice for both club and country. The Englishman has built up a good reputation in the last few seasons and could now finally have his moment under the sun.
